Eiston - His Story
Eiston was worth the effort. His character is one in a million. The signature product in Donnybrook Hoof Range was developed out of need when the owners Di Reynolds and her teenage daughter Amy, decided that the conventional treatments of hoof repair to Amy’s favourite horse Eiston were just not working.
Who is Eiston?
Eiston was a 12 year old dark bay 15.1 hh gelding with beautiful conformation and a cheeky personality, who arrived at the Donnybrook property in 2004. He was bought to help Amy get through one of the toughest fights of her young life so far – Childhood Cancer, diagnosed October 1999. She endured a tough 8 year battle which at times still bear underlying problems today.
Within the first year, he developed an intermittent lameness which a vet diagnosed as an abscess. This lameness was not obvious at the time Eiston was assessed for purchase. The consulting vet cut away part of the hoof to relieve the area. Once the cut was made, the damage had been done. As the hoof grew back, a fault line developed back to the coronet. The intermittent lameness continued and so did the fault line.
Over the next couple of years Di and Amy tried many remedies both commercial and home made to correct the problem with the fault line that appeared as a serious crack within the keratin wall.
Di had many years experience in forensic investigational research - police crime. Although not in human health or veterinarian studies she knew the process of research and her knowledge of how the human body works were sufficient to question the theories that surround hoof health. The lameness was fixed within a 12 month period. It was associated with good shoeing and nutrition.
The chain of events that followed enhanced Dis ability to understand nutrition and how it interacts with cellular development and rejuvenation. This was the catalyst for developing Donnybrooks Hoof Care Range, in particular the HoofStik. It was a combination of nutrition both in the diet and through application at the local level that cured the intermittent lameness and restructured the cellular composition of the hoof to perform as it should.
Di developed a theory about the association of nutrients and how they work within the structure of the hoof. She combined this knowledge with the application of specific nutrient sources that contained the vitamins and nutrients to feed and protect the hoof at the local level.
Amy went on to ride Eiston very successfully in many local shows with a fist full of ribbons to prove it. He is still her favourite horse.
