A microbicide such as Betadine is excellent to soak the hoof in to clean the wound or soaking in Epsom salts. Once this is done, the area should be covered with a protective cover. Bandages are not always suitable. Using sealants and patches that are not natural and allow the damaged area to breath can cause more problems. Many people have used epoxies, car body filler, dental stone, liquid nails and even wood putty. These cover the infection and provide a protected place for the micro organism to multiply. Often the filler will crack and break and allow spaces for soil and other material to settle. This creates an environment to enhance infection activity.

This alone will not work, correct management in combination with the right products and techniques is what does work. You need to understand how the hoof works and what the particular problem is. Ask is the injury from poor diet, exposure to too much or too little moisture, exposure to wet/dry conditions too often.
