DOES YOUR HORSE SUFFER RAIN SCALD?

This is a very common problem but the good news is that it can be treated easily. (Also can referred to as Rain Rot.)

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

* Appears as flakey skin under the hair

* Patchy hair loss can occur

* Continual Itching of the skin

* Horse shows discomfort

* Sores and scabs can appear of which some will be weeping

WHAT IS IT?

It is a common skin condition caused by microbes that colonise the skin of horses (and other animals). The most common microbe is Dermatophilius congolensis, which is a common inhabitant of the horse but under ideal warm damp conditions, it invades the skin causing the above reactions.

TREATMENT

Use the Rain Scald Wash which is a natural antibacterial wash and apply to affected areas to assist in destroying the microbes in the affected skin areas.

For best results try to keep the horse in a dry area.
