It is a common skin condition caused by microbes that colonise the skin of horses (and other animals). The most common microbe is Dermatophilius congolensis, which is a common inhabitant of the horse but under ideal warm damp conditions, it invades the skin causing the above reactions. TREATMENT Use the Rain Scald Wash which is a natural antibacterial wash and apply to affected areas to assist in destroying the microbes in the affected skin areas.
