This is a very common problem but the good news is that it can be treated easily. (Also can referred to as Rain Rot.)WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? * Appears as flakey skin under the hair * Patchy hair loss can occur * Continual Itching of the skin * Horse shows discomfort * Sores and scabs can appear of which some will be weeping WHAT IS IT? It is a common skin condition caused by microbes that colonise the skin of horses (and other animals). The most common microbe is Dermatophilius congolensis, which is a common inhabitant of the horse but under ideal warm damp conditions, it invades the skin causing the above reactions. TREATMENT Use the Rain Scald Wash which is a natural antibacterial wash and apply to affected areas to assist in destroying the microbes in the affected skin areas.
